Get involved at St. John's RichmondComing to church each Sunday is one thing, becoming part of a family is another thing altogether! Christianity is not just believing but belonging. And that’s our goal at St. John’s Richmond: to help us all join this family of believers focused on supporting one another and helping one another to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ. There are several ways to get involved. Serve. The Bible reminds us that the service of God is perfect freedom. We serve out of the conviction that Christ has served us first. There are many ways to serve in SJR: teaching, visiting, having people over for lunch, helping set up or clean up, serve coffee, bread ministry, serve communion, take up the collection. Lead. There are many opportunities in a small church for leadership, in all kinds of settings (large group, small group, one to one). We value musical gifts and are on the lookout for musicians to support Sunday gatherings. Contact Sean Love or Krista Carter for details. Train. SJR is committed to raising servant leaders. We train Sunday School teachers, Bible Study leaders, service leaders, preachers. We are a training centre for the Artizo Program, which identifies and equips young people in biblical ministry. Learn. It is clear that the Christian life is a “walk” not an accomplishment. Growth happens and faith is strengthened when we apply ourselves to learning the truth of what God has done for us in Jesus Christ. Action Item: join a small group Bible Study or lead a class. Make music. Our Sunday services continue to include both old and new music, based primarily on piano, with Krista Carter's excellent singing voice leading the way. Krista has found many of our new songs in the music of Keith Getty and Stuart Townend. We continue to enlarge the body of newer songs we sing so that it includes a few different composers and styles. Our services begin and end with traditional hymns which help enrich our means of expressing our love of God. Many people from our congregation help with the music on Sunday mornings by contributing their abilities. Give. Jesus addresses the act of giving in three main ways: 1) We are to serve Christ without limit 2) Everything we have and are is from God who created and rescued us for himself 3) As God has given generously to us, we are blessed as we release our grip on his gifts and manage them well for the benefit of His kingdom.
