Meals
Meals for Christians are far more than just sharing food, they are a celebration of God bringing his people together, a reminder of the heavenly banquet that awaits us, the feast we have been graciously invited to by the Lord Jesus.
Luke tells us (twice in 7 verses) that the first Christians shared meals together as a regular and fundamental part of their life. “And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers...And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.” (Acts 2:42-47)
At SJR we share monthly picnics and soup lunches on the first Sunday of the month, teas and breakfasts for women and men, potluck dinners on Thursday nights. Sunday lunches are often shared with others from the congregation.
